Executive Overview

The Recovery Assessment Worksheet consolidates electrical and mechanical findings into a single, defensible recovery-level determination — the point where inspection and testing results become an actual engineering decision.

Purpose

Individual test results (an IR/PI trend, a bearing inspection finding) don't by themselves tell you which of the four recovery levels applies. This worksheet exists to combine them systematically, following the same 4-level framework established in the flagship Handbook article.

Procedure

  1. Transfer the IR/PI trend conclusion from the Megger Test Record.
  2. Transfer mechanical/bearing findings from the Inspection Checklist.
  3. Assess frame and core condition (visual/structural).
  4. Cross-reference all findings against the 4-level framework: Level 1 (clean/dry/retest), Level 2 (component replacement), Level 3 (rewind), Level 4 (replace).
  5. State the indicated level with the evidence that supports it — never the level alone without its basis.

Acceptance Criteria

RecommendationA completed worksheet is acceptance-ready when every row has a finding (not left blank) and the indicated level is traceable to specific evidence above it — not asserted independently of the table.

Engineering Notes

Note
Electrical and mechanical evidence can point to different levels — when they conflict, the higher (more conservative) level generally governs, since either failure mode alone is sufficient to compromise the machine.

Typical Mistakes

Common Mistake
Determining the recovery level before all inputs are complete, then working backward to justify it — the worksheet should be filled top-to-bottom, not conclusion-first.
