NEMA-frame induction motors are the most common equipment this standard applies to in SRT's engagements, particularly on production lines and equipment packages originally engineered to North American specification.

The first assessment step is determining which convention a machine actually follows — NEMA or IEC — since this affects how every subsequent rated value is interpreted. This is not always obvious from the nameplate alone, especially on older or rebadged equipment.
Inspection includes verifying frame designation and service factor markings are legible and internally consistent, and cross-checking that a "replacement" motor genuinely matches the original's NEMA-rated parameters rather than only its physical mounting dimensions.
